For over four decades, Central Masjid has served as a place of prayer, learning, reflection, and community gathering.
Since the early 1980s, generations have passed through its doors. It has hosted daily prayers, Jumu’ah congregations, Ramadan nights, Qur’an classes, family events, and community initiatives. It has been a constant presence for our community.
After many years of continuous use, the building now requires significant refurbishment to ensure it remains safe, welcoming, and fit for the future.

Scope of Works

The refurbishment includes widening the main entrance, installing new wudu facilities and toilet areas, complete plumbing renewal, full tiling of wudu and toilet areas, new carpets throughout, upgraded lighting and alarm systems, installation of a new boiler and heating system, air conditioning installation, sound system upgrades, structural and steel works improvements, window replacements, and external damp proofing.

Project Cost

Estimated Total: £140,000 – £160,000
The project cost is currently presented as a range because we are still obtaining final quotations for several key elements, including the air conditioning and sound system. As these quotations are confirmed, the final figure will be determined.
Presenting a range ensures transparency while allowing flexibility depending on contractor pricing and final specifications. This estimate includes structural works, facilities upgrades, safety improvements, essential system installations, and contingency costs.

Donor Intent Statement

All donations received for the Central Masjid Refurbishment Project will be used towards the refurbishment works described on this page.
If the total funds raised exceed the final project cost, or if any surplus remains after completion, the remaining funds will be allocated to the general charitable purposes of Chelmsford Muslim Society (CMS)
By donating, supporters acknowledge and accept that funds may be applied in this manner if necessary.
