Chelmsford Muslim Society (CMS) is committed to ensuring that zakat raised within our community supports those in genuine need locally.
We have partnered with the National Zakat Foundation (NZF) to ensure that all applications are assessed carefully and that zakat is distributed in a responsible, transparent, and Shariah-compliant manner.
CMS raises zakat funds locally. NZF conducts eligibility assessments and distributes funds directly to approved recipients in Chelmsford and surrounding areas. This partnership combines local community support with a trusted national assessment process.
Your zakat stays local. Your impact stays local.
Through this initiative, we aim to:
Provide relief to Muslims experiencing urgent financial hardship.
Strengthen the sense of belonging and connection within the Muslim community.
Ensure zakat is distributed fairly, professionally, and in accordance with Islamic principles.
Eligible applicants may receive zakat support for essential living and housing-related costs.
This can include:
Basic living expenses such as food and clothing.
Essential household items and furniture.
Housing-related costs such as rent arrears or council tax debts.
Each case is assessed individually to ensure fairness and proper distribution.
To be eligible for support, applicants must:
Be Muslim.
Reside in Chelmsford or the surrounding area.
Be eligible to receive zakat (below the nisab threshold and meeting zakat criteria).
Due to high demand and to ensure fairness, only one successful application per person may be supported per year.
Applications are assessed by the National Zakat Foundation.
